ERMI analyzes allergens dust to show the presence of mold by species.

The main problem with ERMI testing stems from it being a composite sample. There is no way to identify the source of the mold. There is no way to tell if the mold is airborne and you are breathing it. Here’s an example: there is mold growth on damp shower tile wall. The levels from a swab sample are very high. However, no mold spores were found in the air sampled. Had we relied on an ERMI dust test and a mold swab sample we would recommend the shower be torn out and replaced. Very expensive. But the real problem is humidity and it can easily be fixed with a working exhaust fan and vinegar on a paper towel removing the mold growth on the shower. Significant savings for the property owner!

If dust mites are your primary concern, there are less expensive tests than MARIA that show dust mites.

To eliminate dust mites from a stuffed toy or a pillow, put the item in the freezer for 24 hours before laundering. Be sure to place items in the drying until no more lint is collected.
